Abstract

The library has a vital role for education, that libraries are social agencies that guarantee the implementation of a process of intellectualism. This study aims to obtain an objective picture about how far the role of the library for the citizens of the built in Class IIA Correctional Institute in Yogyakarta. The approach used in this research is descriptive and qualitative. The subject of this research is the Head of Prison, librarian, staff and residents Penitentiary correctional coachee. The research location is in the Library of Class IIA Wirogunan Correctional Institution located in Yogyakarta. Methods used to collect data through observation, interviews, documentation. The method used in analyzing the data, namely data reduction, data display, conclusion and verification. The results of this research is the library role as correctional institutions are: (1) the role of formal education that is as a place to eradicate three blind is illiterate, blind language, and the blind chase figure that includes package A, non-formal education courses that provide training to the resident built, (2) the role of independent education, (3) recreation center, (4) the role of the library for the citizens of target in the development of science and faith. Correctional Institution Library is expected to be working with several other publishers in order to add to an existing collection
