Abstract

This research aims to examine efforts in developing emotional intelligence and religious character education among students at State Junior High School 9 Sleman, Yogyakarta. In this era of globalization, education is not only focused on cognitive aspects but also on the development of students' emotional and religious character aspects. This is a qualitative research study, utilizing Daniel Goleman's theory of Emotional Intelligence. The data sources for this research include the school principal, staff, employees, teachers, and students. Data collection is conducted through interviews, observations, and documentation. In this study, Miles and Huberman's model is used to analyze the data through data reduction, data display, and verification. The research results indicate that State Junior High School 9 Sleman has implemented various programs and activities aimed at developing students' emotional intelligence and religious character education. Teachers actively participate in providing guidance and support to students to optimize their emotional potential. Additionally, extracurricular and religious activities in this school also positively contribute to shaping students' religious character. However, the research also identifies some challenges, such as limited resources and the lack of parental involvement in supporting the development of students' emotional intelligence and religious character. Therefore, collaboration between the school, teachers, and parents is recommended to design more effective strategies to achieve these goals.
