Abstract

Friday Sonten Indonesia Foundation as a non-profit organization engaged in education, religion, and social humanity was established by fellow students from various universities in Yogyakarta to deal with various phenomena and community needs through empowerment activities. One of the fundamental phenomena is the decline of generations towards religious knowledge. Suryoputran as the initial center of the movement is inhabited by a heterogeneous community. Some houses contain two different beliefs, while others contain family members with minimal religious understanding, which is characterized by not carrying out mandatory religious worship routines and illiteracy in the Quran. This became one of the reasons why the foundation launched its planned programs. Through this problem, this research aims to examine how the communication strategy used by the Friday Sonten Indonesia foundation in empowering the community and how the process of implementing community empowerment in the Friday Sonten Indonesia Foundation's activity programs. This research uses field research, which is a qualitative research process. The informants in this study consisted of foundation administrators, volunteers, and the Suryoputran community. In determining the research data, the researcher selects subjects that are in accordance with the tasks and involvement in the implementation of the program as well as the position in the Friday Sonten Indonesia Foundation. The methods in this research were observation, interview, and documentation. The results of this study show that the communication strategy used by the Friday Sonten Indonesia Foundation in empowering the community is carried out with three strategic steps, namely persuasive, informative, and educative strategies with interpersonal, group, and mass communication patterns through the foundation's activity programs. The implementation of the three strategies is carried out in every step of the foundation's activity programs, such as Rumah Ngaji and Tafahna literacy parks, compensation, webinars, Ramadan festivals, and other activities. Essentially, the communication strategy of the Friday Sonten Indonesia foundation is good but still needs improvement and evaluation because there are still several programs that are constrained or stop midway. This is done so that there are no obstacles that hinder the running of the empowerment process in the community.
