Abstract
This research begins with the discourse on the coalition axis of Islamic parties ahead of the 2024 elections presented by the mass media, providing an image of press freedom so that certain social actors or groups are marginalized in reporting with a specific purpose. Leeuwen introduced a discourse analysis model to detect and examine how a group or person is marginalized in a discourse. Therefore, this research examines discourse analysis in political news from the daily newspapers Jawa Pos and Kompas based on Theo van Leeuwen's theory. The problem in this research is how do the daily newspapers Jawa Pos and Kompas discuss Indonesian Islamic parties ahead of the 2024 national political contest? The aim of this research is to find out how the daily newspapers Jawa Pos and Kompas discuss Indonesian Islamic parties ahead of the 2024 national political contest from Theo Van Leeuwen's perspective. The theory in this research uses critical discourse analysis from Theo van Leeuwen's perspective. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. The type of research used is documentation. The results of this research are the news discourse displayed in the daily newspapers Jawa Pos and Kompas ahead of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) regarding the coalition of Islamic political parties in order to unite the strength of Islamic parties, both in the form of cooperation and alliances. However, not all Islamic parties agree with the discourse of a coalition of Islamic political parties. Each Islamic party has the authority to choose to join other Islamic parties or other parliamentary parties. In both daily newspapers, both Jawa Pos and Kompas, the writer found that in writing Islamic party news discourse, journalists carried out marginalization in two forms, namely exclusion and inclusion. A form of exclusion, namely passivation-nominalization, is found in story texts 1, 2, 3 and 4, while clause replacement is not found. In this form of exclusion, actors are obscured or marginalized. Then the form of inclusion is also found in quotations from story texts 1, 2, 3 and 4, except for the association-disassociation strategy. In this form of inclusion, actors are displayed in news stories with journalists who write in an unclear way (through the strategies of differentiation, abstraction, nomination, deetermination and assimilation) and the names of people and events are presented clearly in the strategies of differentiation, objectivation, categorization, identification, indeetermination and individualism.
