Abstract

The interpretation of sexuality verses in Tafsir At-Tanwir Muhammadiyah apparently partly presents a normalization of sexuality discourse which is dominantly gender biased. The indication of the dominant discourse is due to the existence of knowledge-power relations that occur in the interpretation of Tafsir At-Tanwir regarding verses on sexuality. The interpretation of sexuality regarding the parable of women as sexual objects, for example, is likened to a farming field. This is contradictory to the interpretation of sexuality verses in Muhammadiyah tarjih products which present an interpretation of justice and balance in the needs of sexuality. The aim of this research is to reveal how the interpretation of sexuality verses in Tafsir At-Tanwir and the dominant Muhammadiyah tarjih products is by looking at the power-knowledge relations that normalize and marginalize the sexuality discourse in them. This research is qualitative research in the form of library research. The first primary data source in the research comes from library data in the form of written documents, namely Tafsir At-Tanwir Muhammadiyah Volume II, namely in the verses of Q.S Al-Baqarah verses 221-232 and verses 234-237. The second primary data source is Muhammadiyah tarjih products on sexuality, namely the book Tuntunan Menuju Keluarga Sakinah and Wacana Fiqih Perempuan Perspektif Muhammadiyah. Secondary data sources come from field data in the form of interviews and book and journal documents related to the theme of sexuality. Data collection techniques are carried out by determining, mapping and analyzing interpretations. The analytical technique used is to analyze the dominant knowledge in the interpretation of sexuality verses in Tafsir At-Tanwir and Muhammadiyah tarjih products. From the process of normalizing the dominant discourse, marginalized knowledge will then be marginalized as an effect of the power of normalized knowledge. This research concludes first, different from the interpretation of sexuality verses in Tafsir At-Tanwir where some of the interpretation themes are gender biased, the interpretation of sexuality verses in Muhammadiyah tarjih products produces gender inclusive interpretations. The interpretation of sexuality verses in Tafsir At-Tanwir can be divided into six interpretive themes, some of which show gender inclusiveness and other themes are gender biased. Second, the knowledge-power relationship in the interpretation of sexuality verses in Tafsir At-Tanwir and Muhammadiyah tarjih products has a discursive discourse that is built systematically through a process of normalization and marginalization. The normalization of knowledge in Muhammadiyah tarjih products found the use of Muhamamdiyah tarjih manhaj and the use of a gender fair perspective. Meanwhile, the normalization of gender-biased knowledge in Tafsir At-Tanwir is found in the textual meaning of verses which is the cause of interpretations that tend to be biased. The marginalization of knowledge found in Muhammadiyah's tarjih products, namely tarjih products, can be seen in the neglect of textual interpretation methods and classical textual sources of jurisprudence. Meanwhile, the marginalization of knowledge found in Tafsir At-Tanwir is the marginalization of women's voices which causes androcentrism and the marginalization of the voices of female commentators.
