Abstract

Tahfidz students in Islamic boarding schools have more tasks and demands than non tahfidz students, where these demands can cause tahfidz students to be more likely to experience stress due to the very long and not easy memorisation process. Whereas stress levels are the main factor that has a significant impact on the formation of a person's negative automatic thoughts. This study aims to see the difference in negative automatic thoughts between students who take part in the Qur'an tahfidz programme and students who do not take part in the tahfidz programme. The method used in this research is comparative quantitative. The subjects who participated in this study were 300 adolescent santri in Yogyakarta using purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was carried out using the ANOVA test analysis method. The results showed that there was a significant difference in negative automatic thoughts between santri who participated in the tahfidz programme (number of memorization 10, 20, 30) and those who did not participate in the tahfidz programme with p = <.001 (p < 0.05), meaning that the level of negative automatic thoughts of tahfidz santri was lower than the level of negative automatic thoughts of non tahfidz santri. This study can represent the condition of adolescents with the role of santri in Yogyakarta, so that the results of this study can be used as an evaluation for both the boarding school, santri guardians, and the adolescent santri themselves.
