Abstract

This research discusses makerspaces in the context of library services, the implementation of makerspaces, and the implications of makerspaces in the social and economic empowerment of library users in Yogyakarta City Library. The purpose of this research is to understand makerspaces in the context of library services, to understand the implementation of makerspaces, and to understand the implications of makerspaces in the social and economic empowerment of library users in Yogyakarta City Library. The type of research used is qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. In this research, the technique used in selecting researcher informants is purposive sampling. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis techniques use data reduction, data presentation, and verification. Data validity techniques use credibility testing with source triangulation, and techniques. The results of this research indicate that the Makerspace in Yogyakarta City Library serves as an innovative platform that empowers the community through various programs and activities. Its concept revolves around accessibility, inclusivity, collaboration, community, learning, creativity, and innovation. Programs such as Applied Literacy, Literacy Incubation, and Fun Saturdays serve as evidence of the library's commitment to empowering the community. Promotion through social media and the LITA LOVERS WhatsApp group ensures wide access for the public. Funding from the local government budget and active participant involvement demonstrate the sustainability of the makerspace program. A variety of programs, from cooking to agriculture, accommodate diverse interests and skills. These efforts need to be continuously undertaken to reach a broader audience and establish the makerspace as a leading center for learning and empowerment. The positive impact of makerspaces on the social and economic empowerment of the community is evident. Skills, knowledge, and creativity of the community are enhanced, opening up new economic opportunities such as entrepreneurship and additional income, especially for women. Makerspaces also serve as community hubs and social networks, enhancing a sense of ownership of the library. Overall, the Makerspace in Yogyakarta City Library has shown positive impacts and serves as an inspirational model for the development of similar programs in other libraries. Efforts need to be continued to expand its reach and maximize its benefits for the community.
