Abstract

This thesis examines the ideology of the characters in the novel al-Karnak, studying the ideology in the novel al-Karnak is important because there are questions that can be categorized as ideology. The method for finding the ideology of the characters in the novel al-Karnak is structural semiotics of Greimas after the researcher examines the ideology of the characters in the novel al-Karnak using the Greimas approach. This research is a library research with the type of qualitative descriptive analytical research, with the method of collecting using the read-note method to obtain data about the story structure of the characters related to the ideology of the characters with several actan segments, external structures and inner structures and the researcher collects data regarding ideology by criticizing ideology of figures with Greimas semiotic theory. The data analysis method uses the Miles and Huberman models and consists of three steps, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The researcher obtained the result that there were four figures who met the ideological criteria with the Greimas structure, namely Qurunfula, Ismail al-Sheikh, Zainab Diyab and Khalid Safwan and obtained the ideology of the figures including the ideology of revolution, apathy, socialism, idealism, egoism, lower-class hegemony and pragmatism.
