Abstract

a novel written by one of the famous Egyptian novelists who represents historical events in the form of literary works by Nawal al-Sa'dāwī, namely the novel Imrā'ah 'Inda Nuqṭaṭi al-Ṣifr. This novel tells the true story of a woman named Firdaus, whose life was crushed by injustice and violence that she received as a child and as a woman. This culture made him what forced him to become a prostitute. At that point the subject is faced with a confusing choice by being offered a path that is the desire of others in it. That is, the subject never really arises and exists according to what they want autonomously, so that symbolic violence is a complete necessity to disrupt the subject in the grip that they create. Ṣifr with the perspective of literary sociology Pierre Felix Bourdieu regarding symbolic violence. Power in general functions as a bridge to be able to dominate other groups, and can enable discrimination, inequality, injustice, and even violence. Bourdieu explains that symbolic violence occurs through a structured concept. Among others: habitus, arena, capital, and class. Society is synonymous with mastering and being controlled, as in fiction. Fictional stories are made with backgrounds that are in accordance with the reality that is packaged and the form of literary works. The aims of this research are (1) to reveal the structure of power, (2) to reveal the form of representation of symbolic violence. This study uses the theory of symbolic violence from Pierre Bourdieu's perspective. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. The data in this study comes from the novel Imrā'ah 'Inda Nuqṭaṭi al-Ṣifr by Nawal al-Sa'dāwī. Methods of data collection using the method see, record. The data analysis technique uses analysis techniques through three stages, namely data provision, data analysis, and results presentation. The results of this research study are the structure of power consisting of habitus (colonial clan habitus, character habitus) capital (economic mode, social capital, cultural capital, and symbolic capital), arena (economic arena, capital, social arena, and religious arena), and class (dominant class, petty bourgeoisie, and popular class). Apart from that, there are also representational forms of symbolic violence, the first is euphemism symbolic violence in the form of imagery, affirmation, necessity of giving motivation, belief. Second, the symbolic violence of censorship mechanisms in the form of marginalization, greed, injustice.
