Abstract

The background of this research is researching places that organize PAI master's study programs which have differences in both background and policies. This research aims to find out the extent of the trends in thesis research topics of PAI Masters students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta and PAI postgraduates at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang (S2-PAI) and wants to see a comparison of trends in research topics in the field of Islamic education in theses at the two universities providing masters education ( S2), as well as looking at the factors that influence the trend of research topics in the Islamic PAI master's education field at the two universities. The research method used in this research is Descriptive Quantitative Research with descriptive analysis. The sample in this research is the thesis content of Master of Islamic Religious Education students from the two providers in 2020-2022. The results of this research are the trends that exist at UIN Yogyakarta with the topic of Islamic education research where the discussion is related to the values of Islamic education, multicultural education and the dynamics of Islamic education. Meanwhile, the trend of research topics at UIN Malang is the topic of attitudes & behavior which includes discussions regarding student attitudes, student character and morals. Comparison of trends in the second thesis research topics, namely that Islamic education has several components including, Firstly, Islamic education in terms of educational material at UIN Yogyakarta and UIN Malang has the same trend, namely in the element of moral education, it's just that the percentage of UIN Malang has more discussion elements than with UIN Yogyakarta, Second, Islamic education from an institutional perspective at UIN Yogyakarta and UIN Malang has the same trend in this component, namely in formal education institutions, however, the percentage of use in this discussion is more at UIN Malang. Third, Islamic education from a system perspective, namely education Islam has several elements, and at UIN Yogyakarta and UIN Malang there are different trends where the student element becomes a trend at UIN Malang and the curriculum elements and learning materials become a trend at UIN Malang. The factors that influence the trend of research topics are First, campus scientific development, Second, student activity, Third, campus environment, and Fourth, student residence.
