Abstract

Learning chemistry at school currently requires students to be more active in teaching and learning activities. Educators are required to apply contextual chemistry learning in knowledge construction. Therefore, students need learning resources related to everyday life so that students are helped in the learning process. Soap is one of the products related to chemical materials that exist in everyday life. Soap is a cleaning tool for chemically reacting sodium, alkaline, and fatty acids. The main ingredients, NaOH and fat, can vary in the saponification. Researchers researched the effect of NaOH variations on the physical quality of solid soap with a combination of oil as a ix student learning resource, which aims to determine the appropriate NaOH levels so that they can produce good quality soap products and know the material related to the soap making process according to the curriculum. The research was conducted using two methods. First, the effect of variations in NaOH levels on the quality of the physical properties of solid oil combination soap was carried out using experimental methods and descriptive analysis. Second, an analysis of the curriculum distribution of school chemistry learning materials and soap making as student learning resources was carried out using the literary study method. Based on the research results, the soap-making process that produces good quality soap after carrying out a pH test, foam height test, and organoleptic test is a soap with a NaOH content of 32%. Based on an analysis of the curriculum distribution of school chemistry learning materials and an analysis of tea as a student learning resource. The chemistry learning material relevant to soap making is arranged coherently so students can easily remember and understand the previous and subsequent lessons.
