Abstract

Yogyakarta is the province that has the largest number of elderly people on a national scale. The high number of elderly people in Yogyakarta also triggers high feelings of loneliness and social isolation. This problem is the main thing faced by the elderly so that the elderly easily become depressed. Therefore, a platform is needed that can restore the social functioning of the elderly in society. For example, the existence of elderly schools helps elderly people to achieve well-being both mentally, emotionally and psychosocially. The aim of this research is to develop concepts and keys to happiness that can be applied to all elderly people. As well as to analyze the sources of increasing elderly happiness in old age, the aim of this research is in accordance with the problem formulation. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. This research focuses on understanding what occurs in the field and in-depth descriptions of experiences directly experienced by individuals regarding phenomena or events in the field. The author obtained primary data by collecting data using purposive sampling. Data was obtained from in-depth interviews with 10 elderly people. Observations about environmental conditions that support elderly people to be happy. The author also uses document data sourced from BPS, and data documents on the elderly at the BKL Delima 123 Gedongan Elderly School. The results of research on the meaning of happiness for the elderly who attend seniors' school found three authentic concepts of happiness for the elderly, namely: the happiness of life for the elderly in old age which comes from children or family, from the material well-being and independence of the elderly in old age, and which comes from the role and existence elderly in society. It was also found that the keys to elderly happiness were immaterial and non-material, family and elderly spirituality. The source that increases the happiness of the elderly is happiness that comes from within and outside the elderly person. Then it is energized as an internal and external factor to create authentic elderly happiness.
