Abstract

Malem Songo weddings are a unique tradition carried out by the people of Bojonegoro. Malem Songo is the term people give to the twenty-ninth night of every month of Ramadan. On that night, hundreds of Bojonegoro residents held weddings. This event takes place every year and has become a tradition in the area. This phenomenon is unique considering that Bojonegoro and its surroundings are part of the Java region where the majority of people still adhere to the Javanese Primbon, while night songo weddings are part of a tradition that is not based on the legitimacy of the Javanese Primbon at all. According to the author, this social action is worthy and interesting for further research. Thus, the question is what are the reasons and factors behind the Baureno people carrying out the Songo night marriage tradition, as well as whether there is harmony between these traditions based on the 'urf theory. This research is field research with qualitative, analytical descriptive methods, as well as a sociological normative approach. This research uses Max Weber's theory of social action and uses 'urf theory as a tool for analyzing Islamic law. Data sources consist of primary and secondary data sources. Primary data was collected through interviews with community leaders, related agencies, the perpetrators of the Songo night marriage and local people who understand and understand this tradition. Secondary data is extracted from literature in the form of books and scientific journals. The Mburno people choose night songo as the sacred time for marriage based on rational and irrational motives. Both are constructed in a dominant motif called ngebo confused so that it becomes the background for night songo as a sacred time for marriage. Rationally, they carry out this tradition because there are goals they want to achieve and values they want to maintain. As for irrationality, it is because this tradition has been passed down from generation to generation and is rooted in society. Based on the 'urf theory, the night songo marriage has fulfilled the requirements as a valid 'urf so that its validity is the nature of the Almighty which must be preserved. Including 'Urf 'Amalī when viewed from the object side. Meanwhile, based on the scope or scope of its use, the malem songo marriage is intersecting between 'urf khāṣ and 'urf 'ām (khās wa 'ām min wajhin) which means that the malem songo is general in the Bojonegoro area and its surroundings, and is specific to the East Java area only. Or it is special („urf khāṣ) because this custom only exists in Bojonegoro and its surroundings. The author observes that this tradition is like the exit door on an airplane, a solution when there is a deadlock in choosing a wedding time according to Javanese law.
