Abstract

In the 21st century, religious problems in Indonesia are increasingly complex, especially those concerning human values. This can be seen from the rise of intolerance, religious conflict, and even religious based radicalism terrorism. In addition, physical violence, violations of moral values, and violations of human rights occur, giving birth to religious based dehumanization. Therefore, a solution is needed, one of which is an intellectual solution. From here, the author presents KH. Salahuddin Wahid's thoughts on humanism. Interestingly, KH Salahuddin Wahid's humanism has a typical pesantren style. Coming from such a background, this research aims to understand the humanism KH. Salahuddin Wahid and explain its relevance for contemporary religiosity in Indonesia. This research is a literature study with a philosophical approach. Data sources are taken by the documentation method. Primary data comes directly from the works of KH Salahuddin Wahid, among others: Berguru pada Realitas, Memadukan Keindonesiaan dan Keislaman, Transformasi Pesantren Tebuireng, and other literature by KH. Salahuddin Wahid. The data is supported by secondary data relevant to this research. The data that has been collected is then read with the content analysis method and concluded with the induction method. The theory that becomes the reference of this research is Jacques Maritain's integral humanism theory, which connects religion with humanitarian issues. Maritain's humanism is basically religious humanism, because God is the principle in his humanism. The results of this study show the following. First, KH. Salahuddin Wahid's humanism is a humanitarian concept that has an Islamic base and pesantren tradition, especially the values inherited by KH. Hasyim Asy'ari. Conceptually, KH. Salahuddin Wahid's humanism includes religious humanism and is in line with Jacques Maritain's integral humanism principles. KH. Salahuddin Wahid's humanism connects religion and pesantren with social problems such as inequality and injustice. KH. Salahuddin Wahid's humanism leads to true brotherhood between humans, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, political beliefs, or social strata. Second, the normative critical aspect of KH. Salahuddin Wahid's humanism has relevance for religion in Indonesia, including: building humanist religion, encouraging the enforcement of human rights, and measuring the politicization of religion
