Abstract

This research is motivated by the impact of population density in the city of Yogyakarta causing land constriction and a lack of awareness in protecting the environment among the people of Yogyakarta. A dirty environment causes a negative impact on people's health, both from unhealthy air circulation and food whose cleanliness is not guaranteed. The Bausasran area is one of the areas in Yogyakarta that has limited land and people who lack awareness of protecting the environment. Urban farming is an effort to increase public knowledge in protecting the environment. Community empowerment through urban farming is usually carried out in city areas, by optimizing the area for managing the city environment. The aim of this research is to find out empowerment strategies through community service activities throughout the alley so that the community is active in cleaning the environment, as well as sustainability strategies that can increase economic value in the community to maintain the programs that have been implemented continue and not directly interact with them as social and cultural creatures. The results of the research are 3 components of empowerment, namely: 1) Ecological empowerment, namely, looking at the state of the environment and raising awareness among the community in protecting the environment. 2) Economic empowerment, namely, seen from the results of the harvest, it can be useful in life. 3) Socio-cultural empowerment, namely, strategies that maintain aesthetic values and social interactions in society.
