Abstract

The level of conformity or peer pressure experienced by teenagers, especially students of MA Miftahul Huda Tayu, remains high in social interactions within the school environment. Generally, students lack self-control to refuse negative or deviant invitations, resulting in poor-quality or negative social interactions. Therefore, assertive behavior is needed for students to express their opinions honestly, openly, and comfortably, thus facilitating positive social interactions. The aim of this research is to investigate the relationship between assertive behavior and social interaction among students of MA Miftahul Huda Tayu. This study adopts a quantitative correlational approach. The measurement tool for assertive behavior utilizes Galassi's scale consisting of 35 items, while social interaction is measured using Robert F. Bales' scale with 33 items. The research is conducted on all students of MA Miftahul Huda Tayu, namely grades 10, 11, and 12, with a population of 235 and a sample size of 117, selected using Simple Random Sampling technique. Data analysis employs Spearman's rho and correlation analysis using SPSS 18. The correlation coefficient result shows a value of 0.483, and the significance value (sig 2-tailed) is 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant positive relationship between assertive behavior and social interaction among students of MA Miftahul Huda Tayu.
