Abstract

Profitability has an important role in maintaining long-term company stability because profitability shows whether the company has good prospects in the future. This research examined the effects of underwriting, claim expenses, changes in surplus, investment returns, and risk-based capital on profitability proxied by ROA. Profitability is dependent variable while underwriting, claim expenses, changes in surplus, investment returns, and risk-based capital are independent variables. Size and age is control variables. The sample in this study includes twenty four of the listed in AASI for five years (2018-2022). Panel data analyzed using Fixed Effect Model (FEM). From the regression results; investment returns and risk-based capital are positively related. Underwriting, claim expenses, changes in surplus are not significantly related with profitability. Simultaneously variables underwriting, claim expenses, changes in surplus, investment returns, and risk-based capital as well as using or not using control variables (size and age) together affect the profitability of Islamic Insurance companies in Indonesia.
