Abstract

KH Sholihuddin as the leader of Pesantren Daarul Firdaus Yogyakarta, who applies interpersonal communication in delivering da'wah messages to his santri. Before the application of interpersonal communication, he only relied on group communication in study activities, because this was considered ineffective, which showed that the students had no feedback and changes in terms of understanding and attitude. So that the method is changed to interpersonal communication as a reference for KH Sholihuddin in building santri leadership at Pesantren Daarul Firdaus, because it is considered more effective in conveying messages. This study aims to analyze how KH Sholihuddin's interpersonal communication strategy in which there is planning to implementation in building leadership character in students. This research is a qualitative research that aims to describe which aims to describe the research data. The data collection techniques used in this research are observation, interview, and documentation. The data collected were analyzed using the data reduction model, data presentation, and conclusion drawing using the data reduction model, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings of this study indicate that KH Sholihuddin effectively applies interpersonal communication strategies in building leadership character among santri. This is demonstrated by the changes in the santri due to the effective interpersonal communication process both verbal and nonverbal shown by KH Sholihuddin and the santri. As a result, interpersonal communication patterns in preaching can run smoothly. KH Sholihuddin's interpersonal communication planning includes openness, empathy, support, positive attitude, and equality communication planning includes openness, empathy, support, positive attitude, and equality. KH Sholihuddin successfully applied the five approaches, resulting in a smooth process of delivering da'wah messages using an interpersonal communication approach. Interpersonal communication activities include verbal forms such as direct dialogue, inspirational stories, giving advice, and providing motivation. In addition, it involves nonverbal forms such as showing discipline by being present on time, showing sensitivity, being the imam of congregational prayers, giving sermons, and giving lectures.
