Abstract

The exchange rate or nominal exchange rate is the value a person uses when exchanging one country's currency for another. Along with economic globalization, payment systems in international trade are becoming more complex. Therefore, to determine the level of movement of currency exchange rates in various countries, five countries with a floating exchange rate system, namely Indonesia, Turkey, China, South Korea, and Japan, will be chosen as objects of exchange rate research. This research aims to provide empirical evidence about the influence of the money supply, stock returns, and inflation on the exchange rate. The samples for this research were Indonesia, Turkey, China, South Korea, and Japan for the 2012-2022 period annually, so 55 samples were obtained. The statistical method used to test this research is panel data regression. The result is that the money supply and inflation variables partially positively affect the exchange rate. Meanwhile, the stock return variable partially hurts the exchange rate. Then, the variables of money supply, stock returns, and inflation simultaneously influence the exchange rate. This research also shows that the exchange rate variable can be explained by the variable money supply, stock returns, and inflation of 99.83%, while other variables explain the remaining 0.17%.
