Abstract

The urgency of this research is to see the ability of academic resilience needed by final year university students while carrying out early adult developmental tasks, as well as completing academic tasks, especially the final task or thesis which is full of challenges. This study aims to review the correlation between hope and emotional intelligence with academic resilience in final year students who are working on a thesis at Islamic State University of Sunan Kalijaga. The research sample involved 110 final year university students from 8 Faculties at Islamic State University of Sunan Kalijaga who were taken based on non-probability sampling technique, with convenience sampling. This study uses a correlational quantitative method using three instruments, which are The Adult Hope Scale (AHS) modified version of the researcher with a reliability of 0.813, Brief Emotional Intelligence Scale (BEIS-10) adopted version of the researcher with a reliability of 0.828 and using the Academic Resilience Scale (ARS) directly with a reliability of 0.846. The data analysis technique used in this study was multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that simultaneously there was a positive and significant relationship between hope and emotional intelligence with academic resilience (Sig.<0.001) and provided SE of 27.5%. In addition, partially there is a positive and significant relationship between hope and academic resilience (Sig.<0.037 or <0.05) and provides SE of 9.37%, and there is a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and academic resilience (Sig.<0.001) and provides SE of 18.16%. The results of the difference test based on gender, faculty and marital status of parents on academic resilience found that all three did not show significant differences. The results of the study will have implications for the development of students' internal strengths as a modality to have academic resilience abilities while trying to complete their studies.
