Abstract

Statistics is a science that social science students need to master. However, undergraduate students from social science programs such as psychology, business, law, education, and others still have difficulty mastering this knowledge. This research aims to find out the relationship between lecturer support, peer support, statistics anxiety, and student engagement in non-STEM students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The method used in this research is quantitative correlational. The subjects obtained were 320 students who were selected using non-probability sampling techniques with a quota sampling type. The instruments for this research use the adoption of the Scale of Student Engagement in Statistics (SSE-S), the adoption of the Teacher Support Scale (TSS), the adoption of the Peer Support Questionnaire (PSQ), and the adoption of the Statistical Anxiety Scale (SAS). Data analysis was carried out using multiple linear regression analysis. It was found that there was a simultaneous influence of lecturer support, peer support, and statistics anxiety on student engagement (p < 0.05). Then lecturer support has an influence on student engagement with a positive relationship (p < 0.05) with an effect size of 35.2%. Peer support is known to have no significant influence on student engagement with p = 0.09. Meanwhile, statistics anxiety has an influence on student engagement with a negative relationship (p < 0.05) with an effect size of 13.211%. So it is hoped that these results can be used as an evaluation for institutions to offer training to help lecturers develop their pedagogical skills and to provide supervision and professional assistance to students who experience statistical anxiety.
