Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the problem based learning model with the cultural context of the Yogyakarta Palace on the understanding of mathematical concepts and love of local culture for class VII SMP students. This type of research is quasi-experimental research with a non-equivalent control group design research design. In this research, sampling was carried out using a purposive sampling technique, then a pretest was carried out to determine the initial abilities and a posttest to determine the students' final abilities. The independent variable of this research is the problem based learning model with the cultural context of the Yogyakarta Palace and the dependent variable is students' understanding of mathematical concepts and love of local culture. The research instruments used were teaching modules, student worksheets, pretest and posttest questions on understanding mathematical concepts, and questionnaires about students' love of local culture. The data analysis technique in this research uses the independent sample t-test for students' understanding of mathematics concepts and their love of local culture. The research results showed that the problem based learning model with the cultural context of the Yogyakarta Palace was stated to be more effective than the conventional learning model in understanding mathematical concepts and love of local culture for class VII SMP students. In this case, it can be seen from the data on the pretest scores for understanding mathematical concepts and love of local culture for students from the experimental class and the control class that there is no significant difference in average.
