Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the abilities that must be possessed by students in the 21st century. Critical thinking skills of students can be trained by applying appropriate learning methods and models, one of which uses the RADEC learning model. The stages of the RADEC learning model are Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create. This study aims to 1) determine the effectiveness of the RADEC learning model assisted by Dambus musical instruments to improve students critical thinking skills; 2) determine the improvement of students’ critical thinking skills using the RADEC learning model assisted by Dambus musical instruments. This research uses a type of quasi experiment with a nonequivalent control group design. The sampling technique used purposive sampling technique. The samples of this study were class XI 5 as the control class and class XI 6 as the experimental class. The data collection instrument was in the form of a 10-item description test instrument. The increase in critical thinking skills can be seen from the results of the difference in the pretest and posttest scores of students. The results of this study are 1) physics learning using RADEC model assisted by Dambus musical instrument is very effective. Based on the results of the effect size obtained of 0.91 with a large effect size category. 2) the increase in critical thinking skills in the experimental class was 20.79 or in a percentage of 44.01%. The critical thinking category increased from the low category to the medium category. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the RADEC learning model assisted by Dambus musical instruments is effective and the RADEC model is able to improve students' critical thinking skills.
