Abstract

The leadership culture strategy built by the Head of the Master of Education Management Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta seems to have shifted the productivity of the institution towards a higher quality. The reason is, with the young age of the study programme and within a year of leadership, the head of the study programme succeeded in bringing MMPI UIN Sunan Kalijaga to achieve superior accreditation and placing the study programme as the first MPI Masters department in PTKIN to achieve it. This study aims to reveal the leader's cultural strategy in shaping the quality culture of educational institutions in the MMPI Study Programme at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This is done to answer three questions. (1) How is the cultural strategy of the Head of Study Program in shaping the quality culture of the institution? (2) How is the impact of the Head of Study Program's cultural strategy on the quality culture of the institution? (3) How is the critical analysis of the Head of Study Program's cultural strategy in shaping the quality culture in the MMPI Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This research belongs to the category of qualitative research based on ethnographic studies. This research uses two data sources, namely primary and secondary. Primary sources consist of MMPI Study Programme stakeholders, which include the head of the study programme, the secretary of the study programme, and other sources involved with MMPI Study Programme. While secondary sources refer to articles, books, dissertations, theses and other relevant source pages. The results showed that the cultural strategy of the Head of MMPI UIN Sunan Kalijaga was carried out in three forms of strategy. First, family tradition and consistency as the pillars of the institution. In this strategy, Kaprodi built an emotional approach to gain active participation of members. Second, he showed exemplary management of the organisation. This strategy is carried out by demonstrating the capacity of Kaprodi in managing the institution. With this, he gained the trust of the members and motivated them to work to their fullest potential. Third, the Head of Study Programmes conducts managerial habituation in shaping the quality of the institution. The strategies built by the Head of Study Programmes had an impact on the formation of a conducive and dynamic atmosphere in the institution. His strategy also has an impact on improving the performance of the institution. The quality culture formed by the Head of Study Program in managing the MMPI institution at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta is formed through his organisational reasoning based on vision and mission, dynamic and open, and the management of institutions based on ethical and administrative truths. The quality culture was also formed through substantive thinking methods and theocentric humanism paradigm wrapped in a democratic leadership type with a democratic-charismatic-analytical style.
