Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of loneliness and academic stress among overseas students, as well as the relationship between the two. In addition, this study includes the implementation of an assessment of academic development needs in terms of loneliness and academic stress among overseas students of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This research uses a quantitative approach. This study involved 80 respondents from a population of 401, taken with quota sampling technique. After collecting data through questionnaires, hypothesis testing was then carried out using the Spearman rank correlation test with the help of IBM SPSS 22.0 for Windows. The results of the analysis show that the level of loneliness with academic stress is at a moderate level, and there is a significant positive relationship between loneliness and academic stress in overseas students of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta with a correlation coefficient of 0.502 and a p value (Sig.) = 0.000 < 0.01. This highly significant positive relationship means that if the level of loneliness is high, the level of academic stress in first-year overseas students of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta is also high, and vice versa. One of the interventions that can be carried out as a form of implementation of academic development needs assessment to prevent and reduce loneliness and academic stress in first-year overseas students of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication at UIN Sunan Kalijaga is to support and provide social support facilities, counseling, mentoring, workshops, training, and academic mentoring
