Abstract

Poverty in DIY is characterized by limited access to education, health, and adequate housing, with many families living below the poverty line, especially in slums along the Code River. Paguyuban Pengajar Pinggir Sungai (P3S) emerged as a nongovernmental organization that cares about the weak. The form of concern carried out by P3S is in the form of contributing to the community by providing an intervention in the form of community empowerment that focuses on free education. The purpose of this study is to determine the process, as well as the inhibiting and supporting factors of community empowerment based on non-formal education carried out by P3S in Kali Code. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, in the selection of informants researchers choose to use purposive methods and snowball sampling, then in data collection techniques researchers use observation, interview, and documentation techniques. Data validity will be seen using data triangulation techniques, while in data analysis researchers use the process of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results showed that the process of community empowerment based on nonformal education is an effort to improve community welfare through alternative education, by using educational and cultural media collectively to increase the spirit of cooperation in the community. This can be seen from several programs held by P3S such as free tutoring, cheerful Sundays, reading houses, art performances, parent committees, and volunteer schools. One of the supporting factors of the community empowerment program is the enthusiasm of children in participating in the P3S program. But there are also inhibiting factors such as imbalances in the number of volunteers and children.
