Abstract

This research aims to develop an Android-based learning application to facilitate mathematical communication skills in class VII linear equations and inequalities. The reason is because based on existing conditions, students still experience difficulties in understanding and communicating the results of problem solving in story problems. The learning resources used only rely on government literature which tends to be less flexible. So the low mathematical communication skills of students have an impact on cases where students have difficulty in determining or constructing problem solving in story problems. Apart from that, students have difficulty using strategies to solve several problems and then communicating problem solutions either through writing or mathematical modeling. This type of research is in the form of research and development (R&D) which is adapted from the ADDIE development model. There are 5 stages, namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. Product research procedures are carried out using validation tests (media experts, material experts and mathematics teachers), practicality analysis and effectiveness analysis. The techniques used for data collection consisted of tests (pretest and posttest), expert validation, teacher response questionnaires and student response questionnaires. In this research, based on data and information collection in the field, the Math Companion learning media meets the criteria for valid, practical and effective use. The validity test results obtained an average of 3.51 (very feasible) to be used based on the assessment of the validator. The practicality test results obtained an average of 3.20 (very good) used in terms of teacher response questionnaire assessors and 2.67 (good) used in terms of student response questionnaire assessments. The effectiveness test results obtained an average of 80.27 in terms of students' posttest scores which increased and were effectively used in field tests carried out by the remaining class VII of SMP N 2 Depok.
