Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of low literacy rates in Indonesia. Various survey results that have been presented by well-known institutions such as the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) in 2022 show that Indonesia's science literacy is ranked 67th out of 81 countries studied. The purpose of this study is to determine the culture of literacy, the School Literacy Movement (GLS) program, and to determine how the influence of the School Literacy Movement (GLS) program on the literacy culture of grade XI students at SMK Muhammadiyah Imogiri Yogyakarta. This research used mixed method with concurrent embedded design model. Qualitative methods were used as primary sources while quantitative methods were used as secondary sources. The population in this study were grade XI students totaling 82 respondents who were collected using stratified random sampling technique. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. Test the validity of the data using triangulation techniques. Furthermore, the data analysis method uses data condensation techniques, data presentation, and conclusion drawing as qualitative methods and simple linear regression analysis as quantitative methods. The results of this study show that the cultivation of literacy culture at SMK Muhammadiyah Imogiri Yogyakarta is done in two ways, namely through the provision of facilities and infrastructure at school as well as supporting programs such as library awards, stars of goodness, and free tuition scholarships. The School Literacy Movement (GLS) program which includes the habituation, development and learning stages has also been implemented at this school in Indonesian language subjects. In addition, the school literacy movement program also positively influences the literacy culture of grade XI students at SMK Muhammadiyah Imogiri Yogyakarta. Based on the results of the regression equation Y = 28.358 + 0.723x, it can be interpreted that the better the school literacy movement program, the number of literacy culture of grade XI students at SMK Muhammadiyah Imogiri Yogyakarta will increase. Then based on the results of the coefficient of determination shows that the school literacy movement program has an effect of 30.2% on the literacy culture of grade XI students at SMK Muhammadiyah Imogiri Yogyakarta and 69.8% is influenced by other factors that are not being studied. The implication of this research shows that schools need to optimize the School Literacy Movement (GLS) program more comprehensively for all students.
