Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze and describe the translation methods by Peter Newmark and to find out the translation quality of the methods that applied in Maher Zain’s selected songs of the Peace Be Upon You, Guide Me All The Way, and Ramadhan in English to the Bahasa version. These songs is sung by Maher Zain, an popular moslem singer from Sweden that was born in Lebanon. This research using descriptive quantitative method and use translation lyrics in the Awakening Music studio’s Youtube description as data collection techniques. This research is resulting 5 of 8 translation methods by Peter Newmark and 2 of 3 translation quality by Mangatur Nababan, Nuraeni, and Sumardiono that found in those songs. The highest number of Peter Newmark’s translation methods is reached by literal translation method that reached 14,2% and the lowest is reached by idiomatic translation methods. The highest number of data from the translation quality theory by Mangatur Nababan is reached by Acceptable and Less Accurate categories that reached 33 number of data and the lowest is reached by Unacceptable Categories that reached 5 number of data. From this analysis it conclude that the translator on Maher Zain’s selected songs mostly use literal translation and the translation quality result is acceptable by target reader but the lyrics is less accurately translated.
