Abstract

The increasing cases of adolescent aggression in Indonesia, especially Yogyakarta, are the background of this study. Emotional instability becomes one of the characteristics in adolescence that makes individuals easy to carry out aggression behavior. Aggression behavior is all forms of actions carried out by someone by hurting, attacking, and obstructing others intentionally both verbally and nonverbally or physically. One of the internal factors that can influence aggression is self-control. This study aims to determine how the relationship between self-control and adolescent aggression behavior in BPRSR (Center for Adolescent Social Protection and Rehabilitation) Yogyakarta Social Service. This research was conducted at BPRSR (Center for Adolescent Social Protection and Rehabilitation). The subjects in this study were adolescent boys and girls aged 13-19 years totaling 41 people. Sampling is done by nonprobability sampling technique saturated sample type. The method used in this study is a correlational quantitative method with measuring tools in the form of self-control scales and aggression behavior scales. The data analysis technique used is the Pearson product moment correlation technique. Based on the results of data analysis, the value of the correlation coefficient r(xy)= -0.220 and p= 0.167 (p >0.05) was obtained. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between self-control and adolescent aggression behavior in BPRSR (Center for Adolescent Social Protection and Rehabilitation) Yogyakarta Social Service. Some factors that can cause this research hypothesis to be rejected are the characteristics of adolescents, the environment and experience in BPRSR, various types of guidance and moral guidance that have been given, and the research methods used.
