Abstract

The development of communication technology has caused a significant shift in the form and platform of communication. Many instant messaging applications have been developed with various features. WhatsApp application is one of the instant messaging applications that has become the main choice in communication with intuitive interface design and reliable security. WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging application with 2 billion users as of April 2024. This study aims to determine the perception of WhatsApp usability using the Usability Metric for User Experience (UMUX) and Usability Metric for User Experience Lite (UMUX-Lite) instruments according to ISO 9241-11 with usability aspects of effectiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction. The data processing methods used are descriptive s and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics in this study include 4 moments, namely (1) Moment 1: central tendency using mean, median and mode; (2) Moment 2: distribution includes standard deviation, percentile, and proportion; (3) Moment 3: slope using skewness; (4) Moment 4: closeness using kurtosis. While inferential statistics used margin of error. The results showed that in the UMUX, according to user perceptions, WhatsApp is very fulfilling user needs (P1), very frustrating (P2), very easy to use (P3), good in the time required for error correction (P4). On the UMUX-Lite, WhatsApp is very fulfilling (P5) and very easy to use (P6). Furthermore, the data is calculated based on total value or aggregation value and based on Sauro Lewis. From both calculations, the UMUX and UMUX-Lite values are in the good to excellent range. In general, the WhatsApp application shows a very good level of perceived user satisfaction. However, there is room for improvement in fourth questions of UMUX, namely the aspect of time requirements in error correction to improve overall usability.
