Abstract

extraordinary impact, both in the economic, social, political and cultural fields, so it requires effective and efficient handling. One of the ways in which criminal acts of corruption are handled is repressive efforts, namely investigations as part of law enforcement. Investigation, as a central part of criminal law enforcement, requires the resolution of cases as quickly as possible in order to achieve fast, simple and low-cost justice. In line with this, Article 25 of Law 31 of 1999 concerning criminal acts of corruption also requires the acceleration of resolution of corruption cases. Looking at the practice in the field, the Bantul District Prosecutor's Office has handled 2 (two) cases of criminal acts of corruption in the period from 2020 to 2023, starting from the inquiry, inquiry and prosecution stages. Handling at the investigation stage takes a lot of time or is relatively long. So, the researcher felt compelled to conduct research regarding the role of the prosecutor's office as an investigator in corruption cases. Considering that regional governments in Indonesia are not yet completely free from corruption, the Bantul District Prosecutor's Office has a central role in eradicating criminal acts of corruption in the Legal Area of Bantul Regency. Therefore the question arises: First, what is the role of the prosecutor's office in carrying out investigations of criminal acts of corruption in the Legal Area of Bantul Regency, secondly, what factors might influence the investigation of criminal acts of corruption in the Legal Area of Bantul Regency. This research is a field study research. And the approach used in this research is juridical empirical. This approach focuses on facts in the field in accordance with the results of interviews and data obtained from the Special Crimes Section of the Bantul District Prosecutor's Office as well as applicable legal regulations. Then it was developed using a descriptive analytical method, namely collecting and describing all data relevant to the problem topic, namely relating to the role of the prosecutor's office in handling criminal acts of corruption at the investigation stage. The results of this research are that the Bantul District Prosecutor's Office in carrying out its role as an investigator of criminal acts of corruption in the Legal Area of Bantul Regency has made maximum efforts based on existing regulations. Attorney General Regulation 039/A/Ja/2010 concerning Administrative and Technical Management for Handling Special Crime Cases regulates the investigation time from investigation I to investigation III, namely 4 (four months). However, in practice the investigation carried out by the prosecutor's office was not effective and efficient because it took quite a long time, namely 10 (ten) months. This is due to several influencing factors, namely inhibiting factors, the large number of witnesses who must be examined, the existence of social restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic during the investigation, difficulty in finding evidence and waiting for the process of calculating state losses by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP). Apart from that, there is also a driving factor, namely, the existence of public awareness which encourages the resolution of cases and the eradication of criminal acts of corruption in the Legal Area of Bantul Regency.
