Abstract

The shift in husband and wife roles caused by salary differences in the community of Jepara Regency leads to distortions in the expected role balance within the family. The traditional role of the husband as the economic supporter of the family is disrupted by significant differences in the wife's financial income. This raises questions about whether this role shift creates imbalances that subsequently affect family dynamics, husband-wife interactions, and the division of domestic and public roles. This study aims to analyze the shifting roles of husbands and wives in families in Banyuputih Village, Kalinyamatan Subdistrict, Jepara Regency, particularly in families where the wife works in a company. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews and documentation. The results indicate a shift in family roles where the wife not only acts as a homemaker but also as the main or additional breadwinner. Economic factors are the main driver of this change, which also affects gender dynamics and relations within the household. Furthermore, the study found that despite the role shift, there is still gender inequality in the division of domestic tasks and family decision-making. This study contributes to understanding the social impact of women's economic participation in rural areas and the importance of policies that support gender equality in the family.
