Abstract

Overseas students are those who have completed high school and then live outside their area of origin for a certain time to receive education at a tertiary institution outside their area of origin. It is known that migrant students initially feel uncomfortable when they first come to an overseas city, which causes their psychological well-being to decline. One of the factors that most influences psychological well-being is the existence of social support between individuals. Social support is an exchange of energy between two individuals that can be felt by the individual giving or the individual receiving with the aim of improving the psychological well-being of the recipient. In this case, the aim of this research is to determine the relationship between social support and psychological well-being in overseas students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This research uses a quantitative, correlational approach. The social support measuring tool uses the social support scale from Sarafino's theory, which has 32 items, while for psychological well-being, it uses the scale from Ryff's theory, which has 43 items. The subjects in this research were 206 subjects who were overseas students continuing their education at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta with the following conditions: active undergraduate students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Class of 2023, aged 18-22 years, from outside Yogyakarta, and willing to participate in the research This. Data analysis was carried out using Pearson product moment and independent sample t-test analysis using the SPSS 23 program. The results of the correlation coefficient test with a value of 0.525 and 2 tailed significance showed 0.000 p < 0.05 which means there is a positive relationship that is quite large or quite strong between social support and psychological well-being in overseas students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This means that the higher the social support, the higher the psychological well-being of overseas students. Likewise, the lower the social support, the lower the psychological well-being.
