Abstract

This research is motivated by cases at Islamic boarding schools that related to deviant teachings. This deviation from teachings is contrary to the main teachings and principles of Islam which are widely recognized. So it has the potential to damage students' religious understanding and create conflict in society. This case shows the impact of unclear epistemology and axiology in the Islamic boarding school curriculum as the basis for implementing education in Islamic boarding schools. Based on this phenomenon, this researcher aims to analyze the curriculum of the Yogyakarta al-Luqmaniyyah Islamic boarding school (perspective of epistemology and axiology of educational philosophy). This type of research is qualitative field research with an educational philosophy approach. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews and documentation. Test the validity of the data using method triangulation and source triangulation. The qualitative data analysis used belongs to Miles and Huberman, namely data condensation, data display, and drawing conclusions/verification. The research results show: First, Epistemology in implementing the Islamic boarding school curriculum from the perspective of the Neoscholasticism philosophy emphasizes the truth of revelation from the al-Qur’an and Hadis through book of sources mu'tabarah as well as empirical truth through extracurriculars and preparation for Ramadhan safaris. Efforts to gain knowledge are carried out to apply mental discipline, teach logic, deepen understanding of classical texts, maintain Islamic words traditions and create a holistic educational environment through methods in the curriculum. Book study mu'tabarah consistency by various existing Salaf Islamic boarding schools is a form of validity of the source of knowledge. Second, Axiology in implementing the Islamic boarding school curriculum prioritizes values based on rational revelation. Ethics includes the value of respect, consistency (istiqomah), devotion (service), and spiritual practice (Riyadhah) which all originate from revelation and can be rationalized through books mu'tabarah. Aesthetics based on the transmission of religious values can be seen in the art of reciting the al-Qur’an, Nadzaman, sholawatan and manaqiban. Third, the position of curriculum in educational philosophy theory combines the best elements of various educational theories to create an eclectic approach. Educational goals tend to be Religious-Conservative and Pragmatic. The theories of essentialism, perennialism, and reconstructionism are also included. The educational materials and methods in the curriculum contain the theories of essentialism, perennialism, progressivism and reconstructionism.
