Abstract

Islam was born with moderate and tolerant principles, which also include opposing radicalism, extremism, or even terrorism. This principle can also be understood as Islam, being the majority religion in Indonesia, having the obligation to protect and respect minority groups in Indonesia. As evidence that Indonesia was founded on Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, these principles strengthen interfaith brotherhood within one nation and one people. All religions teach humanity and harmony, making Indonesia a peaceful and unified country that embraces all religious components. This study uses qualitative research methods. The semiotic analysis method by Roland Barthes is used to examine the messages of religious tolerance found in the YouTube video titled “Tolerance is the Key to Peace.” The results show that the use of certain signs by K.H. Said Aqil Siradj in his lecture complexly illustrates the values of tolerance and peace in social and religious contexts. The conclusions include the application of the principles of tawassuth (moderation) and tasamuh (tolerance) in daily life, behaving justly towards others, strengthening religious values while preserving culture, mutual respect without discrimination, and the development of tolerance in a multicultural society.
