Abstract

Career anxiety is a feeling of worry felt by individuals in making decisions about their future careers. Excessive career anxiety results in the inability to make career decisions and hinders career development. This study aims to determine the relationship between positive thinking and social support with career anxiety in final year students. The research method used is quantitative correlation. The subjects in this study amounted to 253 final year students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. The sampling technique used accidental sampling. The data collection technique used a questionnaire through google form which was distributed online containing a career anxiety scale, positive thinking scale, and social support scale which was then analyzed by multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that simultaneously there was a significant negative relationship between positive thinking and social support with career anxiety in final year students as seen from the correlation coefficient of 18.3 and a significance value of <0.001 (p<0.05). Then partially there is a significant negative relationship between positive thinking and career anxiety in final year students with a correlation coefficient of -4.605 and a significance value <0.001 (p<0.05). Meanwhile, social support shows no significant relationship with career anxiety in final year students as seen from the correlation coefficient of -0.339 and a significance value of 0.690 (p>0.05). However, when viewed from the aspects of social support, one aspect, namely family support has a significant negative relationship with career anxiety in final year students with a correlation coefficient value of -2.492 and a significance value of 0.013 (p<0.05). This finding provides an effective contribution of 12.8% to career anxiety in final year students.
