Abstract

Self-efficacy is an individual's belief in their ability to organize and execute the actions required to achieve specific goals. Self-efficacy is influenced by four factors: mastery experience, vicarious experience, verbal persuasion, and psychological affective states. High self-efficacy can reduce speaking anxiety in students, as strong confidence in their speaking abilities can decrease feelings of anxiety and fear. This study aims to determine the relationship between speaking anxiety and self-efficacy in speaking English among college students in Batam. The method used is a correlational quantitative approach with a total of 193 participants, consisting of 68 males and 125 females. The sampling technique used is convenience sampling. The measurement instruments used in this study are the Self-Efficacy for EFL Speaking Scale (SEESS) and the Public Speaking Class Anxiety Scale (PSCAS), and the analysis conducted is Linear Regression (F-test). The results indicate a negative relationship between speaking anxiety and self-efficacy in speaking English with a significance value of 0.007 (p<0.05). Based on demographic analysis, differences were found in the levels of speaking anxiety and self-efficacy between male and female students. These findings imply that speaking anxiety can be minimized by enhancing self-efficacy in speaking English
