Abstract

This study aims to see the relationship between self-esteem and the intensity of social media use with the tendency of anorexia nervosa in adolescent women. Some young women tend to show a tendency to anorexia nervosa which is considered an implication of low self-esteem and high social media use. The sample used in this study amounted to 215 adolescent girls in Yogyakarta City with a sampling technique using the quota sampling technique. This research is included in the correlational quantitative research. The data collection method was carried out using a scale of anorexia nervosa tendencies, self-esteem, and intensity of social media use. The results of the study showed that there was a relationship between self-esteem and the intensity of social media use with the tendency of anorexia nervosa. The effective contribution of self-esteem variables and the intensity of social media use to the tendency of anorexia nervosa was 23.2%. The implication of this study is that the tendency of anorexia nervosa is indeed attached to adolescent girls, but it is not only caused by self-esteem and the intensity of social media use, but there are other factors outside the scope of this study.
