Abstract

The transition from the world of education to the world of work is a phase that students will face after completing formal education. In this phase, students will be faced with a series of self-development processes that require careful planning for their future. When students do not plan well, it can cause career anxiety in them. Based on this problem, researchers want to know the relationship between college belongingness and future orientation on career anxiety in students at private universities (PTS) with non-excellent accreditation at D.I. Yogyakarta. This research uses quantitative correlational methods and sampling using quota sampling techniques. This research involved 250 students from private universities in D.I. Yogyakarta. Data was collected using the Career Anxiety Scale (CAS), College Belongingness Questionnaire (CBQ), and Future Orientation Scale which were then adopted by researchers. This research data analysis uses multiple linear regression data techniques. The research results show that there is a significant relationship between college belongingness and future orientation on career anxiety (p < 0.001). The partial test results show that the first independent variable, namely college belongingness, has a significantly negative relationship with career anxiety (p < 0.001), so the first minor hypothesis is accepted. Meanwhile, the second independent variable, namely future orientation, showed no significant relationship with career anxiety (p=0.245), so the second minor hypothesis was rejected. The effective contribution of college belongingness and future orientation to career anxiety is 19.1%. The implications of this research show that students need to have a sense of attachment and optimism towards the university, so that they are able to maximize the development of their abilities as preparation for the future and avoid the risk of career anxiety.
