Abstract

The lack of tools to facilitate students' critical thinking skills is the main problem in conducting this research. This research aims to 1) Develop a test instrument for students' critical thinking abilities on sound and light waves material at MA Ali Maksum Yogyakarta, 2) Determine the feasibility of a test instrument for students' critical thinking abilities on sound and light waves material which was developed based on material expert assessors and educational evaluation experts . This research is R&D research that adapts the development stages according to Borg and Gall which have 10 development stages. Research is limited to the seventh stage, including: 1) Looking for potential problems and collecting data, 2) Planning, 3) Initial product development, 4) Initial trials, 5) Product revision, 6) Field trials, and 7) Revision the final product. The research instrument is a validation sheet and product assessment for material experts and educational evaluation experts in the form of a Likert scale made on a scale of 1 to 4. The research results that have been developed are in the form of a critical thinking test instrument which contains essay questions accompanied by a grid of questions, basic competencies, critical thinking indicators, test questions, answers and scoring guidelines. The instrument for testing students' critical thinking abilities on sound and light waves material that was developed has very good product quality and is suitable for use. The quality of the content of this test instrument has a suitability level of 87% in the "Good" or usable category, 13% in the "Fairly Good" category, and 0% in the "Not Good" category with the final result being that the 14 items are suitable for use to measure students' critical thinking abilities and 2 questions are not appropriate. The results of this research indicate that the test instrument developed is suitable for use to diagnose students' critical thinking abilities.
