Abstract

Moral decline has become a pressing global challenge, encompassing a decrease in respect for parents and teachers, drug abuse, free sex, cases of bullying leading to the death of students, low literacy interest, rampant dishonesty, and divisions caused by fanaticism. These issues highlight the urgency of finding solutions, including exploring the character education values found in traditional Islamic texts tur ats typically studied in pesantrens. This research aims to analyze the character education values in the book Ta’li<m Al-Muta’allim and examine how these values are implemented and their implications for the students at Pondok Modern Al-Rifa'ie Satu Malang, with the hope that it can serve as a reference for addressing character education challenges.The type of research employed is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques include documentation, observation, and interviews. The data analysis technique used is the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model. The theory applied is Thomas Lickona's theory of character education. The researcher uses content analysis to obtain literary data in the form of character education values from the book Ta’lim Al-Muta’allim. The results of this study indicate that: 1) The background for using the book Ta’li<m Al-Muta’allim as a reference is that it teaches ethics and manners in seeking knowledge, is recognized as a classic work of Islamic tradition, and its practical teachings can develop the academic and spiritual aspects of the students. The values taught include a love for knowledge, peace, democracy, communication, humility, intelligence, diligence, gratitude, asceticism, trust in God, patience, compassion, positive thinking, piety, and honesty. 2) The implementation of character education values in the students of Pondok Modern Al-Rifa’ie Satu aligns with Thomas Lickona's theory, namely: Moral knowing through the study of the book. Moral feeling through the example set by teachers and religious activities. Moral action through habituation. Supporting factors include the students' instincts, traditions, and a positive environment. Hindering factors include the diverse characters of the students and an environment with negative influences. 3) Practical implications include increased motivation to learn, respect for others' opinions, strengthened social skills, increased perseverance, appreciation of time, strengthened mental resilience, and the teaching of integrity and honesty. Theoretical implications include enriching and supporting existing theories proposed by experts.
