Abstract
This research aims to explore Buya Hamka's concept of humanity and assess its relevance in modern life. As a prominent Indonesian scholar and thinker, Buya Hamka emphasized that humans consist of both physical and spiritual dimensions. He argued that humans are not solely shaped by their physical aspects but also possess spiritual potential that needs to be developed to achieve true happiness through a relationship with God and the cultivation of moral and intellectual qualities. The study employs a qualitative approach by analyzing Buya Hamka's major works, such as Tasawuf Modern and Falsafah Hidup. The focus on Hamka is based on his significant influence on Islamic thought in Indonesia and his ability to integrate traditional Islamic values with the challenges of modernity. Hamka’s profound and holistic views on humanity, morality, and social life remain relevant within the cultural and social contexts of contemporary Indonesia. His perspective on humans as beings of faith, ethics, and social responsibility provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the role of humanity in the modern world and offers solutions rooted in Islamic values. The findings of this research show that Hamka emphasizes free will, moral responsibility, and the balance between worldly life and the afterlife. Humans are given the freedom to choose their life paths, yet they remain accountable for their choices before both God and their fellow humans. This perspective is particularly relevant in addressing challenges such as individualism, materialism, and moral crises, and can serve as a foundation for developing a character that balances spiritual and social values.
