Abstract

Tafsir Risalat al-Qaul al-Bayan fi Tafsir al-Qur'an is a work of interpretation that was born from Sunni figures who were present to preach their teachings. This tafsir consists of one juz, namely Juz 'Amma, which uses Minangkabau Malay using Minangkabau Malay Arabic script. This interpretation was born as a response to the ideological dynamics in Minangkabau which served to strengthen his ideological position as a central Sunni figure. With a complex social and historical background, this interpretation reflects Arrasuli's interest in maintaining Sunni ideology amidst competition with other groups. Moreover, this interpretation was present in the midst of great ideological turmoil in Minangkabau in the 20th century. This study aims to see: First, the form of Sheikh Sulaiman Arrasuli's ideological expression in the Tafsir Risalat al-Qaul al-Bayan fi Tafsir al-Qur’an. Second, how is the narrative of the discourse criticism of Sheikh Sulaiman Arrasuli in the Tafsir Risalat al-Qaul al-Bayan fi Tafsir al-Qur’an. Third, what is the background to the birth of discourse criticism in the Tafsir Risalat al-Qaul al-Bayan fi Tafsir al-Qur’an? This study uses a qualitative method with primary data from the Tafsir Risalat al-Qaul al-Bayan fi Tafsir al-Qur’an and other supporting data such as literature, books, scriptures, articles of a bibliographic nature. To dismantle the ideological discourse in the tafsir of al-Qaul al-Bayan, the author uses Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis. This analysis helps in understanding the representation, relations, and identities in the tafsir text. The implementation of this theory is carried out through an in-depth analysis of the tafsir text to identify ideological expressions and discourse criticisms contained therein and to see the dimensions of discursive practice and social practice to see what underlies the formation of religious ideological discourse in the tafsir of al-Qaul al-Bayan by Sheikh Sulaiman Arrasuli. Based on the research conducted, it can be concluded that: First, the expression of ideology in the interpretation of al-Qaul al-Bayan by Sheikh Sulaiman Arrasuli explicitly displays Sunni ideology in interpreting the verses of Qs. An-Nass. Through an in-depth analysis of the interpretation text, it is revealed that Arrasuli carefully articulates and applies the principles of the ideology in interpreting the Qur'an. Second, the narrative of Arrasuli's ideological discourse can be seen in three things: 1) Ahmadiyah ideological discourse in Minangkabau; 2) Minangkabau Community Socio-Cultural Discourse; 3) Inyiak Canduang's Response to the Interpretation of the Kaum Mudo. Third, the background to the birth of the Inyiak Canduang ideological discourse is due to historical, social, and intellectual factors identified as playing an important role in the formation of ideological discourse in the interpretation of al-Qaul al-Bayan
