Abstract
Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) is the latest environmentally friendly technology, with the process of degradation of organic and inorganic materials using microorganisms as catalysts to produce electrical energy. . This process will produce electrical energy originating from the difference (difference) in electrical potential between the two electrodes and causing electrons to flow from the anode to the cathode through an external circuit. Electrons flowing to the cathode will be captured by complex ions that have free electrons (oxidants). This study aims to design, create, analyze an MFC system using citrus fruit substrates with variations in electrode types and the addition of EM4. Variations in the types of electrodes used are Aluminum/Al with Copper/Cu and Aluminum/Al with Zinc/Zn. Variations in the addition of EM4 25 ml, 50 ml, 75 ml. The procedure of this study consists of preparation, design, manufacture, data collection, data processing and data analysis from the MFC system. A multimeter is used as a measuring instrument for current and voltage. The results of the study showed that the use of variations in Al/Cu and Al/Zn electrodes also affected the electrical energy produced. The more reactive a metal is, the easier it is to oxidize in releasing electrons. The maximum electric current value generated during the test was 0.243 mA in reactor Ⅴ using Al/Cu electrodes. The maximum electric voltage generated during the test was 0.123 Volts in reactor V using Al/Cu electrodes. While the maximum electric power generated during the test was 0.02891 mW in reactor V.
