Abstract

The environmental crisis is increasingly worrying, and not a few religious people are actually involved in practices that damage the environment. This study aims to criticize how religious people, especially those affiliated with the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah organizations, understand religious teachings related to environmental issues. Using the library study method and searching the websites and social media of these two organizations, this study analyzes the theological responses of NU and Muhammadiyah to the environmental crisis that is occurring. The results of the study show that the theological basis of each organization is an important starting point in shaping their movements to respond to the environmental crisis, which reflects the understanding and interpretation of religious teachings in the context of environmental conservation
