Abstract

The Agentong Tamoni ritual at Bujuk Paregi is one of the traditions in Batuan village, Batuan sub-district, Sumenep district and is still preserved today. This ritual is in the form of hanging the baby's placenta (Agentong Tamoni) in the Paregi Tomb (Bujuk Paregi) which is carried out by certain married couples who have a vow/desire because of the difficulty of having offspring for many years. The Agentong Tamoni ritual is an ancestral heritage tradition that is interesting to study because for Madurese people in general, the existence of rituals is considered sacred and has very high philosophical values. This ritual tradition is a form of acculturation of Islamic teachings and Hinduism practices, pre-Islamic Madurese traditions that certainly do not violate the sharia established by Islam. Based on this background, the problem formulation of this research is how the sequence of procedures for the implementation of the Agentong Tamoni ritual in Batuan Village; what is the philosophical meaning of the Agentong Tamoni ritual in Batuan Village; and how according to the Islamic view according to the hadith about the Agentong Tamoni ritual in Batuan Village. The purpose of this study is to determine the procedure for implementing the Agentong Tamoni ritual, as well as to explain the philosophical meaning of the Agentong Tamoni ritual, and the Islamic view of the Agentong Tamoni ritual carried out in Batuan village, Batuan District, Sumenep Regency. The method the author uses is field research with data collection through observation and interviews. The data sources used are informants both those involved and those considered to understand the tradition, namely community leaders and books that support the research. While the data analysis method uses qualitative methods and phenomenology. The results of the study found that hanging the baby's placenta is a requirement set by the tomb guardian elders if those who vow have been given offspring, Agentong Tamoni is carried out by hanging Tamoni (placenta) on the trunk of the Kesambi and Asam trees near Asta Paregi. In the tradition of hanging the baby's placenta (Agentong Tamoni), there is a meaning of gratitude to Allah SWT, a form of mutual assistance, establishing brotherhood and friendship. This is done by married couples who have been given offspring as a symbol of respect, and gratitude to Allah SWT. The Islamic view of the tradition of hanging the baby's placenta (Agentong Tamoni) in the village of Batuan which is embodied in these symbols means a form of gratitude, hope and prayer to Allah SWT with the wasilah (intermediary) of the spirit of the tomb of Bujuk Tamoni, with the hope of being given safety, smoothness, success, and healing.
