Abstract

Many factors contribute to religious conflicts, one of which is authoritarian religious agency. According to Anthony Giddens, agency in social space refers to individuals who engage in social practices constrained by space and time. Based on this definition, authoritarian religious agency can be understood as individuals who possess significant power and influence over religious doctrines and their followers. The depiction of religious conflict is not limited to the real world; some portray it in artistic works such as anime. Some anime incorporate religious conflict into their narratives, one example being Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari. This study aims to investigate the involvement of authoritarian religious agency in the formation of religious conflict in Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari. The collection of data collection in this study was carried out using library research techniques, where written sources technique, in which written sources become the main material to be analyzed. The main focus of this research is the anime series Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari, which is used as a single corpus. Then the analysis method used using John Fiske's semiotics to describe scenes related to the theme of the research, and borrowing Charles Fiske's theories. the theme of the research, and borrowed Charles Kimball's theory to find out how the the role of religious authoritarian agency works in the formation of religious conflicts in the anime Tate no Yuusha. in the anime Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari. In this study, it is found that the Church of the Three Heroes led by Pope Balmus is a religious institution that has great influence in the Melromarc kingdom. They worship the three legendary heroes (Sword Hero, Spear Hero, and Arrow Hero) and actively oppose Naofumi as the Shield Hero. This church makes use of all means, they utilize the people's faith and beliefs to manipulate and control the situation for their own interests, not even hesitating to carry the name of God to start a war. The church's influence is not only limited to the religious aspect, but also encompasses politics and social affairs, creating deep and complex conflicts in the Melromarc kingdom
