Abstract

Recently, the world of football in Indonesia has developed very quickly. This is marked by the growing number of supporters in football. However, recently there has been a lot of news circulating in the mass media regarding cases of riots committed by football fans. Emotional regulation is one of the factors that can reduce supporters' aggressive behavior. This research aims to determine the relationship between emotional regulation and aggressive behavior of supporters in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The research uses quantitative correlational methods. This research used a sample of 250 people obtained from sampling using accidental sampling technique. The data collection technique was carried out using an aggressiveness scale and an emotional regulation scale which was prepared using a Likert scale. Data were analyzed by hypothesis testing using Product Moment Correlation with the help of the SPSS 26 program. The results showed a correlation coefficient for aggressive behavior and emotional regulation (Cognitive Reappraisal) (r= -0.231; .000<0.05). Meanwhile, the correlation coefficient for aggressive behavior and emotional regulation (Expressive Suppression) (r= -0.323; .000<0.05). Thus, the research hypothesis is accepted, that there is a significant negative relationship between emotional regulation and aggressiveness in football supporters in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The higher the emotional regulation, the lower the aggressive behavior. Conversely, the lower the emotional regulation, the higher the aggressive behavior.
