Abstract

This research explore the representation of strong women towards Dewi Sekartaji in the Yogyakarta style Panji mask puppet dance, Jaka Bluwo, emphasizes the relationship and depth of classical dance art from various perspectives. The Panji masked puppet dance in Jaka Bluwo's play not only functions as a means of visual entertainment, but also as a forum for many cultural values, philosophy and character education. By using Susanne K. Langer's semiotic theory, this research succeeded in exploring the symbolic meaning of each movement of Dewi Sekartaji, which is an interpretation of discursive and presentational symbols in the context of Yogyakarta classical dance. By applying qualitative methodology through interviews, observation and documentation, this research not only provides academic contributions, but also has the potential to preserve the cultural riches and noble values contained in every movement of Dewi Sekartaji. Dewi Sekartaji, who was the daughter of a king named Prabu Jayakusuma, was also the center of attention of kings who wanted to ask for her as their wife. The story of Jaka Bluwo in the puppet story of Panji, Raden Panji and Dewi Sekartaji depicts a journey filled with tests of love, loyalty and justice. Through Raden Panji's transformation into Jaka Bluwo, we learn that true love is not limited to physical appearance alone, but is based on loyalty and courage to face all trials. Dewi Kilisuci's role as a wise guide and advisor illustrates how important support from third parties is in maintaining strong relationships and noble values. This story is not just a narrative about conflict and difficult decisions, but also a reminder of the power of love to overcome all obstacles, as well as the importance of justice and wisdom in maintaining peace and harmony in society.
